Innovative Breaking is announced by Prysmian Using Sirocco extreme 864 Fibers

With the introduction of its ground-breaking Sirocco Extreme 864f microduct cable, Prysmian has raised the bar for innovation in the industry. This innovative cable sets records for blown microduct cable widths and fiber density.

With an astounding 864 fibers in a 9.8 mm diameter, Sirocco Extreme 864f microduct cable offers an unmatched fiber density of 11.5 fibers per mm2. It pushes the limits of what is feasible in the telecom cable systems business by being installable into a 12mm duct. Modern BendBrightXS 180µm single-mode (ITU-T G.657.D, G.657.A2) bend-insensitive fiber is used in Prysmian’s Sirocco Extreme microduct cables. This ensures compatibility with current G.652 fibers and preparedness for evolving systems.

“Microduct cables have become a popular choice for future-fit applications, such as long haul Datacentre interconnection, metro and FTTx networks. They enable rapid deployment and provide future-proof scalability, and their small footprint also provides sustainability benefits due to the use of less raw materials. Sirocco Extreme microduct cables offer the best available dimensions on the market as they utilise Prysmian’s BendBrightXS 180µm single-mode bend insensitive fibre, the only true 180µm fibre available on the market today.” said Ian Griffiths, Global R&D VP, Telecom Business at Prysmian. “The extreme fibre count and reduced diameter of the Sirocco Extreme microduct cables make installation faster and more cost-effective.”

The Sirocco Extreme cables use Prysmian’s PicoTube technology and come in fiber counts ranging from 96 to 864. They meet international standards for optical and mechanical performance and are up to 25% smaller than microduct cables that were previously on the market. This reduces installation costs and the need for raw materials by allowing the installation of more fibers into crowded duct space and allowing the use of smaller ducts for new installations.

Owners and builders of telecom networks can save money by using Prysmian’s Sirocco Extreme microduct cables, which also help them lessen their environmental impact and carbon footprint. Prysmian goes above and beyond its value chain by providing lower diameters and higher fiber densities, proving its dedication to emission-free, ecologically friendly solutions.

The Sirocco Extreme product enhancements demonstrates the Group’s dedication to responding to evolving market needs, offering a scalable solution that is high-density, physically compact, and easily deployable for future-fit solutions.
